Plunkitt Of Tammany Hall Essay Example For Students

Plunkitt Of Tammany Hall Essay Book Report on Plunkitt of Tammany Hall1. Honest Graft and Dishonest Graft- When Plunkitt was tipped off about something in the city or someone wanting to built a park or something, he sees the opportunity and he takes it. He buys up the land before they do. When they see that they are going to need the land, he sells it to them at a much higher price than what he paid for it, giving him a nice profit. That is honest graft. Several politicians are accused of stealing dollars from the states treasury, this is an example of dishonest graft. The condemnation commissioners came along and found piece after piece of land under the name George Plunkitt of the Fifteenth Assembly District, New York City. They wondered how he knew just what to buy. Plunkitt sees the opportunity and he takes it. 2. How to Become a Statesman- If you want to make a fame and fortune for yourself in politics, do not come at them with all of your book smarts and saying how smart you are. That is a big mistake. Get a person to follow you, even if it is only one person and say that you want to join the organization. Do not go at them with your book smarts because they will say that they have no use for you here. 3. The Curse of the Civil Service Reform- Men who have patriotism get it blasted away when they take the civil services examination. The civil service law is the biggest fraud of the age. There are ten thousand good offices, but we cannot get no more than a few hundred of them. When we cannot place these men who wanted to serve their country, they become an Anarchist. There is nothing in the game. 4. Reformers Only Morning Glories- Many reform movements were started during PLunkitts forty years in politics, but none have lasted more than a few years. Morning glories looked great in the beginning but folded in short time. These reformers have been going into things without much practice while the politicians, have been practicing all of their lives and know ever fine point of the game. 5. New York City Is Pie for the Hayseeds- New York farmers wanted their taxes lowered because they were too high. The Republican Legislature will make a rush for the farmer and tell him that if he does not see what he wants to ask for it. After they cut the farmers tax , they raise taxes on liquor and some other taxes in New York City. They take half of the proceeds from the State Treasury and cut down the farmers taxes to suit. New York City is a big fat goose. Come along with your carvings knives and have a slice. 6. To Hold Your District: Study Human Nature and Act According- Plunkitt talks about books being a hindrance and the only way to last is to know everyone in your district. He talks about looking after the people, know what they are interested in and help them with what they want. Help the people and they will help you on election day. 7. On the Shame of the Cities- In Lincoln Steffens, The Shame of the Cities, Plunkitt says that he does not know how to make decisions. He talks about the Philadelphia Republican Gang and Tammany Hall being almost the same. Plunkitt thinks he is all wrong. Plunkitt seems to talk about politicians stealing, saying that they in 1905 are no worse than 1835 as a class. It just means that the old timers had nothing to steal, while the politicians in 1905 were surrounded by temptations. .u078049fc07fc9fd74cddb8929d2b4bc0 , .u078049fc07fc9fd74cddb8929d2b4bc0 .postImageUrl , .u078049fc07fc9fd74cddb8929d2b4bc0 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u078049fc07fc9fd74cddb8929d2b4bc0 , .u078049fc07fc9fd74cddb8929d2b4bc0:hover , .u078049fc07fc9fd74cddb8929d2b4bc0:visited , .u078049fc07fc9fd74cddb8929d2b4bc0:active { border:0!important; } .u078049fc07fc9fd74cddb8929d2b4bc0 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u078049fc07fc9fd74cddb8929d2b4bc0 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u078049fc07fc9fd74cddb8929d2b4bc0:active , .u078049fc07fc9fd74cddb8929d2b4bc0:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u078049fc07fc9fd74cddb8929d2b4bc0 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u078049fc07fc9fd74cddb8929d2b4bc0 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u078049fc07fc9fd74cddb8929d2b4bc0 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u078049fc07fc9fd74cddb8929d2b4bc0 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u078049fc07fc9fd74cddb8929d2b4bc0:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u078049fc07fc9fd74cddb8929d2b4bc0 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u078049fc07fc9fd74cddb8929d2b4bc0 .u078049fc07fc9fd74cddb8929d2b4bc0-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u078049fc07fc9fd74cddb8929d2b4bc0:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Kant: Goodness Essay8.Ingratitude in Politics- Plunkitt talks about how he was back stabbed by one of the people he took in hand, The McManus. His friends told him that this would happen but he did not believe them. McManus ran ahead of Plunkitt in their own district. He later broke his ties with him. When a district leader is voted in it is like a solemn contract. If you do good and help us out, we will re-elect you next term. If you do not, you will be swatted down and will not be reelected. 9. Reciprocity in Patronage- Plunkitt talks about him being on top and doing favors for the republicans, and when they are on top, they do not forget him. He also tells another story how this young man was very patriotic and took the civil services examination and lost all patriotism for his country. 10. Brooklynites Natural Born Hayseeds- Brooklynites will never be New Yorkers, because Brooklyn is like no other place on earth. Some upstate members of the State Committee call themselves Democrats. Uptate democrats do not make contributions that much. 11. Tammany Leaders Not Bookworms- Plunkitt talks about all of the people of the district. Talk about Tammany leaders being illiterate men, and Plunkitt says that they do not know what they are talking about. Every District leader is fit to their district and would not fit in any other district. 12. Dangers of the Dress Suit in Politics- Try to make your neighbors, even if they are the poorest of individuals, feel as if they are equal to you, or even a bit superior to you. Above all things avoid a dress suit. When making a speech, talk the language that the people talk. Talk to them in words that everyone will understand. 13. On Municipal Ownership- Plunkitt is for municipal ownership on one condition, the civil service law be repealed. There would be thousands of new places for the workers in Tammany. The city is better off running things than the government. Salaries would also go up is there was municipal ownership. 14. Tammany the Only Lasting Democracy- Many democracies over the years have come and gone, but Tammany is the only one that still stands. You could start your own democracy for only $50. New York papers would even advertise it for free, just to see a new democracy take over Tammany. 15. Concerning Gas in Politics- Gas houses were worse than open sewers. If the gas houses were removed the property surrounding the gas houses would go up 100%. Plunkitt gave the city magnificent chain of parks, its Washington Bridge, its Speedway, its Museum of Natural History, its One Hundred and Fifty-fifth Street Viaduct, and its West Side Courthouse. 16. Plunkitts Fondest Dream- Plunkitt thinks that in the near future, New York City will become its own state. Things will get resolved much quicker, bills will go through without any problems . He thinks the rest of New York would be helpless because they have been living off of New York City for so long. 17. Tammanys Patriotism- The very constitution of the Tammany society requires that they must assemble at the Wigwam on the Fourth, regardless of weather, and listen to the reading of the Declaration of Independence and patriotic speeches. These speeches would go on for roughly four hours. Men just sitting there in that boiling hot room, parched, while champagne and kegs of beer were just two flights of stairs down. They were dedicated to patriotism. 18.On the Use of Money in Politics- Candidates for both parties have to chip in for expenses when running for office. They pay sums according to their salaries, and the length of term, if elected. Four men wanted one position at once one time. They held an auction in the back and the highest bidder was the one who was able to run. .u9ed942a565bef6c9b8e9f4acbd4021e7 , .u9ed942a565bef6c9b8e9f4acbd4021e7 .postImageUrl , .u9ed942a565bef6c9b8e9f4acbd4021e7 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u9ed942a565bef6c9b8e9f4acbd4021e7 , .u9ed942a565bef6c9b8e9f4acbd4021e7:hover , .u9ed942a565bef6c9b8e9f4acbd4021e7:visited , .u9ed942a565bef6c9b8e9f4acbd4021e7:active { border:0!important; } .u9ed942a565bef6c9b8e9f4acbd4021e7 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u9ed942a565bef6c9b8e9f4acbd4021e7 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u9ed942a565bef6c9b8e9f4acbd4021e7:active , .u9ed942a565bef6c9b8e9f4acbd4021e7:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u9ed942a565bef6c9b8e9f4acbd4021e7 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u9ed942a565bef6c9b8e9f4acbd4021e7 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u9ed942a565bef6c9b8e9f4acbd4021e7 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u9ed942a565bef6c9b8e9f4acbd4021e7 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u9ed942a565bef6c9b8e9f4acbd4021e7:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u9ed942a565bef6c9b8e9f4acbd4021e7 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u9ed942a565bef6c9b8e9f4acbd4021e7 .u9ed942a565bef6c9b8e9f4acbd4021e7-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u9ed942a565bef6c9b8e9f4acbd4021e7:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Tattoos Essay19. The Successful Politician Does Not Drink- Plunkitt believes that drink is the greatest curse of the day, except, civil services, and that it has driven more young men to ruins than anything except civil service examinations. A drinking man would not last two weeks as leader of Tammany Hall. 20. Bosses Preserve the Nation- New York City owes pretty much what it all is today to the bosses of Tammany Hall in the last 20 years. With bosses everything runs smoothly, like noiseless machinery. 21. Concerning Excise- Every time there is an increase of the fee in The Raines Liquor Law, there is an increase in the suicide record of the city. If it is a right to tax a saloonkeeper $1000, its right to put a heavy tax on dealers in other beverages- in milk, for instance- and make the dairymen pay up. If the Raines law gave the money extorted from the saloonkeepers to the city, there might be some excuse for the tax. 22. A Parting Word on the Future of the Democratic Party in America- One issue that would set this country on fire is the abolition of the civil service laws which are destroying patriotism and taking away good jobs from people that have earned them. 23. Strenuous Life of the Tammany District Leader- Plunkitt plays politics day in and day out with no rests. He helps feel the hungry and bury the dead. Plunkitt keeps watch on men, women, and children of his district. He knows their needs, likes and dislikes, troubles and hopes, and helps them to get what they want or need. American History

Food Consciousness Teaching Critical Theory

Question: Describe about the Food Consciousness for Teaching Critical Theory. Answer: Part 1: The source of the story is the eminent novel The Gastronomical Me written by M.H.K.Fisher. In the story, the writer speaks of a huge variety of food items prepared by her mother and grandmother, on several, small occasions during her childhood days (Counihan Esterick). As the speaker walks down her memory lane she recollects how her mother and grandmother would cook dainty dishes, and how the irresistible aroma of the food items, would entice her as a child. Part 2: My sister has been too fond of different kinds of food, and thus she loved preparing new dishes on every weekend. Suddenly, one Sunday, she dusted off the pressure cooker, and decided to apply her cooking skills. She was highly determined to cook dainty steaks, and accordingly she placed the steak on the pan, marinated all its sides with olive oil, and fried it deep. Once the golden brown steaks were being distributed, she was highly praised by my mother and grandfather. Again, another day, as her friends were coming for a home party, she decided to surprise them, by cooking on her own. She was barely 15 at that time, and as she started dipping the chicken in the egg mixture and buttermilk, the crispy pieces of grilled chicken started looking too delicious. Once the lime juice and the ketchup were added, the crispy yet mellow chicken won huge applause among her friends. By the time, she turned 18, she earned so much popularity among her friends and family, that they would refer her t o be the cook of the house. The stuffed camel, Al Machboos, Al Harees are some of the traditional dishes that my sister was equally adept in cooking. While our families would organize picnics, my sister would only be chosen to cook all the dainty, mouth-watering dishes. Once we went to a restaurant, and ordered an extremely delicious bowl of tomato basil soup and Turtle bread. The taste of the turtle bread impressed her so much, that it aroused in her a natural inquisitiveness and enthusiasm to cook the dish on the very next day itself. The turtle bread which she made, groomed with thick onion tomato gravy, was one of the tastiest baked foods that my parents claimed to have tasted. Reference List: Abarca, M. (2016). Melancholy And Hamlet Essays - English-language Films,

Melancholy And Hamlet Melancholy and Hamlet In the play Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare, Hamlet is greatly affected in his thoughts and his actions by his ever changing state of melancholy. Melancholia is a medical term categorized by extreme depression, apathy, and withdrawal. Hamlet gives in to this illness and throughout the play he shows several characteristics of it. Hamlet being so self-centered steers him away from performing the vigorous duties he has been chosen to do by the ghost of his father and also himself. Hamlet develops a wariness of family and companions that keeps him from incriminating himself and destroying his plans for revenge. In the end, it is Hamlet's perseverance and determination that keeps him focused on his plan and gives him a relentlessness with which he pursues his goal. The conduct of Hamlet causes him to become the exact definition of melancholy, as defined by the medical field over the years. The time in which Shakespeare lived and wrote this play was a time where the medical profession was just beginning. The people depended on ancient theories and practices that are no longer used in the medical field today. It was believed that black bile was a fluid found in the body. Any person with an excess amount of blood or fluids was believed to be in the state of melancholy. Hamlet was viewed as being composed of too much black bile which placed him as melancholic. Skepticism, a stubborn outlook and attitude about life, self absorption, and excessive gloomy response to recent events are all symptoms of melancholy. All of these symptoms apply to Hamlet during the course of the play. It is the fulfillment of these symptoms that proves Hamlet is in fact melancholic. Hamlet's constant thoughts and feelings about himself come from his state of melancholy. His continuos introspection as to how he is thinking, behaving, and feeling at any given time keep him from acting swiftly on the commands given to him by the ghost of his father. During all this time Hamlet still shows occasional signs of intelligence as he should. Hamlet is after all, an educated man. He refuses to perform his given duty without first questioning each area of the task at hand. He ponders the consequences of the task then he questions his very own position on the issue. Because of this, his ?thinking too precisely on th' event? (IV, iv, 41) has taken so long that he misses the opportunity to complete his responsibility. Hamlet is led to even more contemplation before he is able to move on to the secondary plan of action resulting from the failure of the first. You can see that Hamlet is able to recognize his pattern of behavior when he says, ?I do not know why yet I live to say ?This thing's to do:' sith I have cause and will and strength and means to do ?t? (IV, iv, 43-6). By seeing the source of his inability to act, Hamlet is now capable of correcting it. Now Hamlet gives in to his passions rather than debating them, which in turn brings more positive actions than lengthy excuses for his failure to act. Hamlet's melancholy is also displayed by his overwhelming emotion for any mood he is currently in. Biggest of all is the death of his father, after which he sinks into a great depression that traps his mind and spirit for the rest of the play. It is more complicated than a simple state of mourning. Hamlet has become obsessive about preserving the memory and integrity of the former king. Hamlet is the last person in the kingdom to continue mourning for his father, and shows his sadness by dressing only in ?nighted color? (I, ii, 68). While his mother sees his choice of clothing as showing his complete emotion, Hamlet tells her that it ?does not denote me truly? (I, ii, 83). His real emotions are much stronger than the simple decision of what to wear. The players come to put on a play and Hamlet focuses all of his time and energy on the performance. He wants to achieve his goal of catching ?the conscience of the king? (II, ii, 548). Hamlet has once again forgotten everything he was concerned with and is now only interested in one small part of his life. Hamlet's behavior shows that he is wrapped up in the mood

Gap Year College Essay Tips

Gap Year College Essay TipsA secondary essay is a great way to improve on your grades or if you are just in need of some extra college experience, but the advice in this sample gap year activities should prove useful. If you are an adult who has never been a student, consider participating in one in order to gain some college knowledge and experience.Before you begin writing the essay, decide on the essay topic. You can choose this topic of interest yourself or if it is a topic that you have been studying for the past two years, you may want to ask the guidance counselor for assistance. After you choose the topic, get out your notepad and pen. Put down what your idea's will be as well as any questions that you have. Having a list of topics will help you to be organized and to narrow down your options.When you have your topic and your questions ready, pick an essay writing software program and start taking some practice tests. This helps to familiarize yourself with the software, as w ell as make sure that you are comfortable with the keyboard layout, typeset, and all of the other elements that go into a good writing assignment. It also helps to practice with different essay topics.A secondary essay tip that I always consider when writing a college essay is to think about my life experiences. If you are having trouble coming up with things to write about, try to use your real life experiences. These include events from the past year or maybe even from your whole life. Have you been to this place, heard this event, eaten this food, worked this job, seen this scenery?If you are still not sure what you want to write about, you can try finding the primary subject and try to match it up with your life experience. If you have ever lived in New York, think about how that would fit in with your life experiences. Try to connect the two by using a colloquialism or a personal memory that relates to your primary subject.Secondary topics should not be too outlandish or too pe rsonal, but should be relevant and of interest to the reader. Using your primary subject is a good way to start a secondary topic. One thing to keep in mind is that your primary subject does not have to relate to your secondary subject at all, but if your primary subject seems to fit into the secondary subject, that's a good point to bring it up.Another secondary tip is to include more than one point in the essay. While it may seem obvious, it helps to consider why one point is relevant to another point. So, if your main point is about how New York students work hard in order to succeed, but your secondary point is about how students in New York succeed because they have a sense of humor, then include both points in your essay.Lastly, always use this secondary tip. It is helpful to write a secondary fact so that the readers can see where you learned something, or it is a bit of information that relates to your primary information. This secondary tip is important for two reasons.

With the implementation of a Wide Area Network (WAN), and proper security steps, Sunica Music and Movies will have the ability to access, implement and use a centralized inventory database from any store. The creation of a webpage will also be necessary to be the company global as well as create an intranet between stores for secure location to location data transfer. Data saved on individual machines will be encrypted with user specific certificates. 2 Integrity Give a brief overview of how the policy will provide rules for authentication and verification. Include a description of formal methods and system transactions. Authentication and verification for machines will be executed via a two step authentication process. This process contains a physical and digital key. The physical key will be Common Access Cards (CAC) with individual specific certificates and keys, and the digital will be a done by password. Access to data will also be through access list and permissions set on databases and files. Availability Briefly describe how the policy will address system back-up and recovery, access control, and quality of service. Systems and Operations Management Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words

Systems and Operations Management - Assignment Example After deciding to go into retirement, Lachlan Atokowa handed over the reins of the business to his eldest son Jonathan Atokowa, who, like his father, was very passionate about the business. Both of them shared the passion to try out the latest technology: Lachlan Atokowa decided to test Xerox 914, Jonathan Atokowa decided to added Commodore 64 and the IBM PC 5100 into the business’s product portfolio. Today, a business that started in a garage has escalated into complex network business processes. Too many parties are now associated with the business, bring along different set of variables into the business environment. Organizational Structure: The company has four different departments which are governing the operations of the business. These four departments are: Retail Operations, Purchasing and Supply chain, Marketing and Human Resource Management and last but not the least the Finance Departments. Each of these departments is headed by a company director who reports dire ctly to the chief executive officer. Under each director are his personnel which are responsible for the functioning of the department. The following table describes the titles which come under each function: Retail Operations Purchasing and Supply chain Marketing and Human Resource Management Finance Director Director Director Director Area Manager Category Manager HRM Manager Company Accountant - Import Manager Training Manager Management Accountant - Warehouse Manager Marketing campaign coordinator Financial Planning Manager - General Manager In-store promotion coordinator. Purchasing and Payment Manager All the company directors are very enthusiastic about the growth of the company. They work along with their individual teams very diligently to resolve problems that are arising in their departments. However, the organisation’s directors have been unable to develop a boding force between the departments. The biggest evidence of this fact is that each department is having i ts own management systems, which are not linked with other systems. It this age of globalisation, the importance which is placed on information sharing by experts is immense. According to the experts, this single aspect of doing business is so important that it can decide the fate of today’s firms. In a fast paced globalised world, information sharing with key stake holders is vital for organisational success and survival (Krajewski, Ritzman, & Malhorta, 2007). And in this case the organisational departments are failing to share vital operational information with one another. This, obviously, is leading to duplication of effort, greater cost, declining productivity, redundancy and frustration in the organisation (Schemenner, 1984). Employees have to do cumbersome paperwork every day, accurate forecasting has become impossible, inventory holding cost is being incurred, wrong inventory is being maintained and above all, customers are feeling dejected. Rather than adopting an or ganisational model which allows the company to become nimble and flexible, so that it can compete effectively in the market place, the company has taken a structure which has made it inflexible and less than competitive (Loader, 2006). Absence of an integrated organisation wide enterprise management system is creating havoc for the company. The company is not doing accurate forecasting of demand, it has failed to satisfy customers’ needs and most importantly, it is not operating efficiently and effectively.

Technology Philosophy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Technology Philosophy - Essay Example Varying the use of available instructional technology materials will keep the students expectant in every lesson. This gives inspiration to both teachers and students as well. For the teachers, there is the challenge to create new and exciting presentations and for the teachers, there is the continuous wondering not only on the concepts to be learned but on how these concepts are presented. The way these are presented is important because it paves the way for their clear understanding of the topics. The use of technology in the teaching-learning process should not be used as a tool in presenting the lessons like using the MS PowerPoint presentations to show the ideas and concepts or the use of transparencies to project the outline of the discussion or the content of the lecture. These should be part of the learning activities also where the students are enabled to understand these technologies and enabled to use these because in a way, creativity and technical skills are also developed. These can also be used as aid in learning concepts also like the use of computer games to teach the concept and activity of inference, hypothesis and prediction. My approach toward my educational philosophy with regard to technology was inductively developed. I looked at what I believe in with regard to the teaching-learning process and attached to these what I believe should be the role of technology. Later on, I looked into existing educational philosophies, and identified from there, which among these best fit my philosophy. As I have identified, these are as follows: John Dewey’s experiential philosophy, Dr. Howard Gardner’s multiple intelligences theory, and John Mc Peck’s teaching critical thinking. Dewey’s philosophy involves the use of experience in teaching like in teaching addition and subtraction of numbers for example, instead of teaching the

The Victim :: Essays Papers

The Victim As a victim Lester Ballard, the main character in Child of God by Cormac McCarthy, never thought that victimizing and murdering others was unjust. If justification is law according to the theory of an eye for an eye, then in many ways Ballard had justification for his actions. Ballard lived by the golden rule, which is to treat others as you wish to be treated. In the following paragraphs I will explain how Lester is a victim and why he is justified to victimize others. GRAPH Lester Ballard did not have the happy, normal childhood we all expect or imagine everyone to have. He never had any brothers or sisters to play with when he was little. When he was a boy his mother ran off with another man and never returned to Lester again. Just shortly after his mother ran off, when he was nine or ten years old, Lester’s father hung himself in their barn. He was left dangling dead for Lester to find later that day. From that day forth Lester was alone in this world. He had no family to share love and happiness with. Lester was not an ignorant child when his father killed himself; he was old enough to understand what had happened and what death was. These situations can have severe mental impact on a child. One member of the community makes a comment about Lester, â€Å"They say he was never right again after his daddy killed himself.† Here Lester is displayed as a victim of his parents. The two people he loved the most and was cl osest to abandoned him. He became a victim of isolation, loneliness, and a broken heart. He could never show love toward people the same way again. Another major impact the loss of Lester’s parents had on him was the loss of role models.

Is Internet Dating Safe?

Is internet dating safe? The internet is just another way for people to meet, and is being used by more and more singles every year. Compared to traditional dating you have to be ready for the added risk of meeting someone who wants to hurt you. Internet dating is used by 1 out of every 10 sex offenders. This does not mean that you should not take the risk. Of course you can just keep your eyes as open as your heart. There are many benefits to internet dating, firstly your safety is very important so no one sees your full name, address, email address or phone number.So there is no identifying information given out, and you remain completely safe. Meeting someone online is a lot faster than traditional dating, meaning it is quicker to find a potential match. Rejection is easier online, it never feels good, but it’s easier to just not get a response back than to have someone walk away from you at the bar. It’s easy to get flustered when meeting someone in person, when you meet someone online you have more time to think and you can take time in responding if you need to. The internet is up all day and night and never sleeps.So you have the luxury of searching for a soul mate anytime, day or night. The best online dating sites allow you to sign up and create a profile completely free of charge, this allows you to log in to the website and look for potential matches without paying anything. Every person you meet online is available and looking for a relationship. Going out to a bar or a club to meet singles for dating can be successful, but most likely less than half the people at these places are there to meet someone to create a relationship.So you are more likely to find a potential match online. Internet dating links you with people all over the world, so you can pursue relationships from afar if you find that you are willing to move for someone but are not sure yet where you’d like to go. Using internet dating, you could find your soul mate and bring love and happiness to your life. If your ex-partner has cheated on you, you may find internet dating helpful. It may help you forget the horrible experience and find someone you deserve. However there are also a lot of dangers associated with internet dating.While both men and women are at risk it is generally the woman who will be exposed to the more severe dangers. Here are a few dangers of this form of dating that you should be mindful of. The very first danger of online dating is when you become a scam  victim. Many scam artists and paedophiles can simply mask their real identity in order to cheat someone not only of their money but emotions as well. There are cases when men sexually assault the women they have met through internet dating when they first meet up for a date. It is easier to lie using internet dating, men admit to lying mostly about their income, height and age.Women admit to lying mostly about their age, weight and body type. You must remember that a ny person you meet online is a stranger, so you must be cautious. Be careful about sharing your personal information; don’t share your full name, never give out the details of exactly where you work, don’t ever give out your address, and be very careful about giving out your telephone number, especially your mobile number. You also need to be careful about sharing your email, most online dating sites allow you to use an anonymous internal communication system.You should use this, until you feel completely comfortable with someone before sharing an email address with them. You should not move off the internet dating site too soon. However when you do decide to do this you shouldn’t share your regular email address, instead you should create a free email address that you use strictly for your internet dating activities. You can easily obtain one through yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc. When you meet for the first time, select the meeting place carefully, you should mee t in a public place during ‘normal’ hours (between 10am and 8pm).Do not deviate from the plan and go anywhere with the person unless you’re completely comfortable with them. Do not let your guard down until you meet a friend, family, or co-worker. This ensures that you can cross-check some of the things you know to be true about the person. If you never meet anyone that the person knows and the person can’t offer anyone up for a double-date, after work drink, or other social encounter, you have a right to be suspicious. With all the benefits and dangers associated with internet dating, you may decide that it is unsafe and not for you. That is completely understandable, ut all you have to do to make yourself feel comfortable and safe is make sure you get pictures from the person and see them on webcam. That way they are less likely to be someone who wants to hurt you. You should always tell at least one friend you are using a dating site, just in case anyth ing happens to you unexpectedly. You could also take a friend along when meeting someone for the first time, to make you feel more comfortable. Try not to be scared and good luck with searching for your perfect partner. Do not give up too easily, 33% of single meet-ups become relationships, there is someone out there for you.

Symptoms And Treatment Of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Contested illnesses are disorders in which sufferers claim to have a specific illness that doctors do not acknowledge as medical (Conrad and Barker 2010). These illnesses are not associated with any recognized physical abnormalities which causes them to be not taken seriously. In addition, the tension between lay and medical understanding with regards to the cultural legitimation of symptoms can be exemplified with these disorders. The contested illness I chose to focus on in this paper is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It will be examined the different criteria this disorder have that resulted it to be classified as a contested illnesses, as well as explore the social constructionist perspective in respect to this disorder. Moreover, it will be answered whether there is a gender dynamic involved in this condition in addition to the contribution big Pharma might or might not have. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, also known as CFS, falls under the category of contested disorders. These illnesses express numerous concerns about the reliability and consistency of the criteria applied to diagnose such disorders. CFS involves persistent inexplicable fatigue that often includes some sort of headache, muscle or joint pain, fever, sore throat, difficulty in concentrating, memory loss and dizziness (Ware 1992). Despite these symptoms, CFS fails to present any empirical diagnostic indicators, since it is not related with any recognized physical abnormality, making it susceptible to socialShow MoreRelatedFibromyalgia Research Paper777 Words   |  4 PagesAbnormal Psychology Research paper Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) is a musculoskeletal illness (which causes chronic pain) and a chronic Fatigue disorder.
